A LETTER FROM JUDGE BILLS

1/14/2017

Judge Nancy Bills (on left) presents a check to Vickie Stevenson (on right) of Project ReNeWal, our local shelter for victims of family violence.
KENNESAW, GA - On October 22, 2016, the Brothers of the Omicron-Kappa Chapter fully participated in the 7th Annual Race Against Violence (RAV) as the Title Sponsor for the sixth-straight year and helped raise approximately $25,000 for the Rockdale County Task Force Against Family Violence and Rockdale's local battered shelter for women and children, Project ReNewal.

Over the years, our brothers have made it a top priority to not only assist our Worthy Grand Master, Derek L. Marchman with community outreach and contribute to A Greater Cause, but more importantly - to give back their time, money and resources to those in need.

The 2016 RAV achieved a record-breaking turnout with over 400 participants and more than 60 sponsors.
In a recent local news article, eMetro Times highlights that
Judge Bills wishes to give a special thanks to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity for not only being the RAV's Title Sponsor, but also for the numerous volunteers they provided on race day."
The newly installed President of Kennesaw State University, Sam Olens, received a very kind letter of appreciation from Judge Bills shortly after the race, which read:
Dear President Olens:

Just wanted to send you a note of appreciation for the effort of the Kappa Sigma chapter at Kennesaw State University for their support of our Race Against Violence 5K road race which benefits our local shelter for victims of family violence.  The gentlemen not only donated $500, but they also had over 30 brothers drive from Kennesaw to Conyers early on a Saturday morning to perform any task requested of them.

I understand that fraternities and Greeks in general are not always presented in a positive manner, but I would be remiss if I did not make you aware of the great work they have performed in our community.  It should be noted that they have participated in this event continuously for seven years.

In addition to their service, they have also demonstrated commitment to addressing the issue of dating violence and have requested that I speak to them about consequences and by-stander intervention.  If your schedule permits, maybe you can join us to share a few words of wisdom.

Again, thank you (for) the good work of your students and I wish you much success in your new post.  In the event you should require anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Nancy N. Bills"
The date for next year’s RAV is October 21, 2017.
